Wilberforce Strikers’ struggles persisted with another defeat dropping three points away to Wusum Stars at the Wusum Stadium on Saturday, December 30th. Despite a composed second-half effort, the visitors fell short with a 2-1 loss. Ibrahim Bangura opened the scoring through Alusine Dumbuya’s brilliant setup converting a penalty and securing a lead at halftime.
The Northern Rock capitalized on securing their fourth win in the Leone Rock Premier League campaign after nine matches. The first half witnessed inconsistencies from Wilberforce while Wusum Stars couldn’t convert promising opportunities.
In the second half, Wilberforce Strikers demonstrated commendable attacking and midfield tactics by dominating the midfield but failed to capitalize. Samantha Bangura, their recent acquisition from FC Johansen couldn’t convert numerous chances. Coach Mohamed Lamin boys regained control with Dumbuya’s midfield mastery earning him the man of the match award.
Wusum’s Abdul Bangura provided an important assist for Saymah Kamara’s goal making it 2-0. Despite missed opportunities, Wusum Stars maintained the lead. In the 90th minute, Mohamed Kanu provided a consolation goal to narrow the margin to 2-1 by capitalizing on the host goalkeeping error.
Wilberforce Strikers winning woes give a similar performance from last season’s campaign wherein out of nine matches played, they have won one, drew four, and lost 4 with a relegation battle position.
